Huawei has seen a huge drop in smartphone sales in 2020, but the year 2021 is starting strong. The company has already confirmed on its official Weibo account that it will launch the Huawei Mate X2 model, the third folding screen device in its portfolio. We now have a release date, an official detail, confirmed by the promotional image, as well as a series of unofficial images with the device.
Huawei Mate X2 will be released very soon
Mate X and Mate Xs were foldable screen devices on the outside, going in a different direction from Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold2. The company has chosen to integrate a single screen, which can be used in two ways: a standard mode, which allows the use like a regular phone, and the open mode, which allows the use in tablet mode.
For the Mate X2, which Huawei will launch on February 22 in China, the company chooses a design rather similar to that of Samsung’s foldable devices. We are talking about a foldable screen inside, which could be even more pleasant to use. That’s because it is rumored that this model will not have a cutout for front cameras on the inner screen. The front camera will only be present on the external screen, which means that you will be able to take selfies and video calls only in the use mode with the main screen folded. That is if Huawei does not plan to surprise us and integrate a camera under the display.
Interestingly, the Mate X2 will use the Kirin 9000 processor, the same one we encountered on the Mate 40 series. Unofficial information last year suggested that due to US restrictions, the company had a limited stock of processors in stock. This suggests that the Mate X2, like the Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro devices, will be available in small numbers on the shelf.
