The iPhone 13 could be Apple’s first phone with a fingerprint sensor under the screen

The iPhone 13 could reintroduce the Touch ID function, reimagined with a fingerprint sensor under the active surface of the screen and promoted as a key feature for the iPhone 2021 range.

Apple’s decision to promote Face ID as a preferred solution for biometric authentication proved uninspired in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the technology did not work well with the face mask. This is why many iPhone users have already given up the Face ID system in favor of the PIN code, a less secure but working solution.

Apple is bringing the Touch ID sensor back to iPhone 13 phones

Although, a year later than it should be, Apple is adapting to the new context by bringing the Touch ID function back to iPhone phones. Fortunately, the old Home key found on older generation iPhone models will remain a thing of the past. Instead, Apple will offer what Samsung and other Android phone manufacturers have been delivering for some time: a high-performance fingerprint sensor, integrated under the active surface of the screen.

According to sources quoted by Bloomberg, Apple is already in the process of testing / selecting the necessary hardware, the plan being to present Touch ID as a key upgrade to the iPhone range in 2021. The same sources confirm that the iPhone 2021 range does not abandon Face ID, which remains among the authentication options with equivalent security level, to be used separately or together with Touch ID.

According to the estimates of the famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is preparing four iPhone variants for 2021:

iPhone 13 mini with 5.4 inch OLED screen

iPhone 13 with 6.1 inch OLED screen

iPhone 13 Pro with 6.1 inch OLED screen

iPhone 13 Pro Max with 6.7 inch OLED screen

We also learn from rumors that Apple is considering removing the charging port on some iPhone models, leaving wireless charging technology as the only option for charging the battery.
