SANTA CLARA – A motorcyclist suffered “significant injuries” in a solo-vehicle crash on northbound San Tomas Expressway in Santa Clara on Thursday, police said.
The crash was reported about 6:30 p.m. near Pruneridge Avenue, said Santa Clara Assistant Police Chief Wahid Kazem. The motorcyclist, identified as a 23-year-old Santa Clara resident, was traveling northbound when he apparently lost control and hit the center median.
“We believe speed played a factor in this collision,” Kazem said.
The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with significant injuries.
Southbound San Tomas Expressway was closed between Pruneridge Avenue and Stevens Creek Boulevard and the left lane of the expressway was closed between Saratoga and Pruneridge avenues until about 9:40 p.m. for an investigation, police said.
