The East Coast Cyclone in 1898 tracked very close to the coast as far as NSW, killing 30 people. In 1954, the Great Gold Coast Cyclone made landfall at Coolangatta. Wanda crossed near Maryborough, triggering the devastating 1974 floods, and while Nancy in 1990 didn’t hit land, it battered the SEQ coast.
