OAKLAND — Police were investigating separate shootings in East Oakland neighborhoods that killed one man and injured another Friday night, authorities said.
Just after 8:30 p.m., police responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity near 89rd Avenue and International Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had been sitting in a vehicle in the 1400 block of 89th when he was struck by at least one gunshot to his torso, and began working to provide life-saving care. Despite first responders’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Other officers arrived and found additional evidence of a shooting, including multiple casings on the ground. Officers worked to control traffic by blocking off 89th Avenue between International Boulevard and Holly Street and westbound International traffic at 90th Avenue.

Just after 9:40 p.m., police responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity near 72nd Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they found no injured victims but did locate at least one rifle casing near 72nd Avenue and Lacey Street.
Moments later, officers learned a man suffering from a gunshot wound had managed to drive himself to an area hospital. He was later initially listed in stable condition.
